Tackling industry challenges

Young Guns is a family-owned business specialising in container logistics who has previously faced challenges such as hazardous working conditions, heavy and irregular cargo and time-critical pressures. Traditional ways of working have often been inefficient and risky for workers.

By collaborating with ARM Hub, Young Guns is combining its industry expertise with cutting-edge robotics to revolutionise container handling. The anticipated benefits include:

  • minimise crew members exposure to safety hazards and decrease their physical workload
  • enhance efficiency and accuracy in container packing
  • improve overall productivity and efficiency in container unloading
  • optimise supply chain processes to meet the demands of Queensland businesses.

Progress and testing

In mid-2024, the first-of-type version of the solution was tested in a controlled environment by replicating a real-life operation. This was done by having a shipping container dropped at the ARM Hub facility, as well as actual stock being transported from a Young Guns customer facility to the test environment.

The two-week testing involved Young Guns’ frontline team interacting with the device to assess functionality and process flow, while data points and timings were documented. This initial testing served as a critical first step towards a scalable solution, demonstrating the potential for automation and robotics to enhance human workforce capabilities.

Based on these insights, a second prototype was developed in partnership with Corematic, addressing improvement opportunities.

As of March 2025, the second prototype is undergoing live field trials, offering further insights to optimise the solution.

Future innovations

Young Guns and ARM Hub are exploring advanced AI features, such as video monitoring and data capture, to enhance supply chain accuracy and quality. An AdoptAI workshop in February 2025 marked the beginning of these exciting developments.

Collaboration for success

This partnership, supported by the Innovation division, is not only transforming Young Guns’ operations but also positioning Queensland as a leader in innovative logistics solutions.

Young Guns is also a proud participant in the First Nations Innovation Acceleration Program, managed by First Australians Capital (FAC). This program supports First Nations businesses by improving investment readiness and providing access to capital pathways. FAC’s mission is to harness the cultural, creative, and economic strengths of First Nations enterprises, with the Innovation Division proudly supporting this initiative.
